From my best friend to me. I need to share it:

"It's important to view Mental Health the same way we think of getting a cold. If you were running a fever coughing sneezing sniffling slobbering, you wouldn't do anything but lay in bed and heal. Mental health is no different. If you caught a mental bug & it put you down for a couple days, there's no shame in that. As long as you're getting up and approaching your bare minimum survival. And sometimes that's all you're going to have for yourself."

I'm sharing this because I've been caught in the vicious cycle of being depressed, and then feeling guilty for the inaction and apathy that comes with being depressed. And then the even shittier guilt that happens when you're unable to just snap your fingers and get back to normal...

We have to at least try to give ourselves grace. It's a reminder I really needed to hear today, because this last month has been a struggle.

@killyourfm I couldn't agree more with your friend. Trust the healing process. Everything will make sense in the end.

I also have my struggles, as a schizophrenic, but I have never lost my faith in the Universe/humanity/call it what you will.

Don't overthink things, focus on your blessings and everything you've accomplished.

Everything is a state of mind. Keep calm and appreciate what the world has to offer. πŸ™‚

@killyourfm Additional to that awful cycle: I would always dwell on the external ramifications of taking a mental health break, like "it will make me look weak," "it wastes time off I might need for physical illness," etc.

Well if I choose not to take a break, do you think I'll be happy to appear so reliable, and grateful to be saving up my sick days? lol no, I'll still feel like shit πŸ˜† So logically, I have no excuse not to be "selfish" and do something for my own sake.

@jsstaedtler Well said, and it's so important that we recognize that. Besides, poor mental health can absolutely manifest physical problems!
