I want to try something. I have good research skills and a hunger for learning new things. Have you got a stupid question that's been taking up room in your brain that you want an answer to? Ask it here and I'll do my best to answer it! No question too silly!

I promise the results will be as accurate as I can find, and as detailed as I can fit in a post, which isn't perfect but is surely better than an AI

@BasiliskXVIII When did the original Star Wars trilogy first get shown in Vietnam?

When you search for it now, the plagiarism machine thinks you want to know how/if George Lucas based the movies on the Vietnam War, or if Ewoks are Viet Cong.

A Vietnamese classmate in college seemed to think the movies were first available sometime in the 90s (based on his age) but wasn't sure when exactly, and I've never been able to find a concrete date, or if it was in theaters or on television.

@SnyperWolf This actually gets into some really neat options for assistive typing for people with limited hand motion. The most obvious is speech-to-text systems which have gotten a lot better over time, but depending on your specific needs, you might also use something like a mouth stick or eye tracking.

One particularly interesting option is a tongue-operated controller, which involves a magnetic pickup and metal stud piercing.

@Poe I haven't been able to find a specific release date and it doesn't seem to have had an official airing. If it was, it wouldn't have been an licensed airing owing to the fact that in 1977, Vietnam was a newly socialist republic and embargoed by the US

With the US trade embargo lifted, in 1994, it's possible that this was where these movies started filtering in. There doesn't seem to have been an official Vietnamese theatrical release of the remasters in 1997 either, but...

@Poe ...it was released in VCD in Indonesia, and imported copies may have been used for unofficial theatrical showings around that time.

@BasiliskXVIII I thought of a weird question for you.
At what height/speed does a fall into water go from survivable to death on impact with the surface?

(question inspired by Vincent Price's character somehow surviving falling off of a tall building because he hit the water)

@Gulleko The biggest factor on this is going to depend on how you're oriented. The more surface area you present to the water when you strike, the more water needs to get out of your way when you impact. In general, feet-first is going to give you the best odds of survival.

Choppier water is also better than calmer, because if you're presenting a smaller surface area, and you hit a wave you're basically shrinking the vector of your impact in to the water by a factor of the slope of the wave...

@BasiliskXVIII I thought the choppier water being better would be because of a surface tension thing, like if you throw a rock in ahead of you it breaks the tension and softens the impact?

@Gulleko The best number I've found for "this will kill you" comes from the FAA, who say that if you're hitting water at 116 feet per second (~127 km/h) that's almost guaranteed death. They list that corresponding to a height of 149' (~45m).

However, the world record for high dive is 192' (58.5m),a nd people have been recorded surviving from falling off the Golden Gate Bridge, at 220' (67m), so there's some margin for error.

@BasiliskXVIII I guess it depends on a lot of different factors, like pose, clothing, wind resistance etc... Thank you for finding the info for me!

@Gulleko "Breaking the surface tension" is largely a myth. The surface tension doesn't really have enough force at this scale to do anything. What causes you to splat is that the water can't get out of the way fast enough and because water is incompressible it basically acts like a solid.

What saves you in this case is that if you imagine hitting a wave that has the water up at a 45° angle relative to you, you're passing through less water at first, which slows you down as you impact the rest.
