Back to my automotive Saturday, I visited the Detroit Autorama show in the afternoon. A few things caught my eye, starting with this because every VW Bug needs a 572 cubic-inch big-block Chevy V8.

@j I mean, who hasn’t driven an old Beetle and thought, “Nice, but it could really use five or six-hundred more horsepower.”

@patioboater The first car I was allowed to drive was a 1974 VW Super Beetle (slightly larger engine than the regular model, curved windshield, marginally longer nose, etc).

Based on that, I cannot imagine how loud and hot that V8 engine would be for the driver and passenger. Unless someone has installed a solid heat and sound insulation layer, people in the front seats would be deaf and roasted in five minutes. Yikes!
