Just started an overhaul of my second lab rack focused on making it more useful and maybe saving a bit of power.
First step: shutting down Octavius (named after Doc Ock), the lone 2U server on the rack. I added a 10m active usb 2.0 cable and powered hub and now the AC701 is connected via usb passthrough to a VM on the Xen server.
At some point I'll probably unrack it to reclaim the space but for now it's just sitting there taking up space.
Also rearranged some rack shelving and added a new shelf to make room for more devkits. Plan is to eventually have anything that doesn't need scope probing to live here during firmware dev, freeing up bench space.

I have very limited tabletop space on the main soldering bench but historically this has been my "firmware development targets live here" space due to lack of good alternatives.
Now that i have usb passthrough on the vm server working i should be able to run a bunch of openocd and uart bridge instances and a Xilinx hw_server without a dedicated host PC.
Probably won't have time tonight but tomorrow I'm gonna try to move the stm32mp2 test board as well as my DUMPTRUCK over to the rack shelves and hook up the relevant dongles to do remote firmware dev.

One of my long standing todos has been to refresh the DUMPTRUCK firmware to use axi4-stream for the Ethernet packet datapath like my other recent projects.
But it had been on hold due to lack of a space to set it up

Related: rack shelves with vent slots are great for putting devkits and protos on, you can use the slots to screw into the bottom of a standoff and keep the board firmly in place without any custom designed brackets or pems or anything. You don't have to do all four corners, two is usually plenty to keep it from wobbling
