One wonders, with all the "Christian" colleges, out there, if/when there are (will be) "Christian" medical schools? -
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon It's interesting how successful these religious bigots have been in perverting the discourse to where their bigotries are treated as preeminent, as well as their comfort.
The professor is, of course, correct. The best response is "you're a professional and your personal bigotries do not matter at all, if you think they do then you should have your medical license revoked and be put on a blacklist."
But the success these people have had is undeniable.

My dad knows Russian but doesn't speak it because, as he put it, he grew up in a place where Russian was the required first foreign language.
How do I know he knows Russian? Because when he switches into "doctor mode," I've heard him a couple of times speaking Russian to patients over the decades.
When he practices, he's a professional, and he leaves his personal opinions off.
Now, the original post is correct; medical professionals need to provide help in situations that might conflict with their personal beliefs.
OTOH, that does not mean that they need to seek such situations; my dad, e.g., as a Catholic, does not provide anesthesia for abortions. It does not keep him from having OB/GYNs as friends who provide these services; he just does not seek planned procedures. Wouldn't keep him from providing emergency life-saving measures. Etc.

This naturally refers to a patient, meaning they are ill or injured accordingly.
LGBTQA* refers, of course, to sexual identity or orientation.

@vampirdaddy @JessTheUnstill @The_Whore_of_Blahbylon actually it's closer to 5 years without parole, because of "guarantor's position" (aka. "duty to care").
- If their inaction foreseeably caused someone's death they may be directly on the hook for a first degree murder or at least manslaughter charge of extra severity, so up to lifetime no less than 15-35 years without parole.
Or as Firefighters know:
You don't stop CPR'ing someone until the doctor orders the paramedic to drag you away from the body!
#NotLegalAdvice but in either case one wouldn't even get hired as a pathologist in Somalia with that "career suicide"β¦

@enigmatico @The_Whore_of_Blahbylon kinda like scene where he explains students that they won't be able to save everyone and inevitably have people die in their arms through no fault if their own, so if they don't like that they should seek a different career.

@hermannus @The_Whore_of_Blahbylon the latter. There are hateful people, not just in medicine, who want to refuse service to LGBT people. -

Good answerSame holds for if the patient is old, female, dark, non-English, non-verbal, or support a different soccer team... you treat them with the exact same care and quality, and if you can't do that for personal reasons, you really really really need to find a different career, but you should also grow the fuck up
