Kind and cherished FOSS and computing freedom advocate @sleepyowl (Joyce Ng) has gone missing and there is reason to fear she may have been apprehended by authorities, possibly likely even for being framed.

Kind and cherished FOSS and computing freedom advocate @sleepyowl (Joyce Ng) has gone missing and there is reason to fear she may have been apprehended by authorities, possibly likely even for being framed. Nobody has been able to reach her and many of us are worried for her safety.
Joyce does work on verifiable open source hardware. She also has been an activist pushing against the rise of far-right Christian nationalism globally but especially in Singapore. Because of this and her identity, she has people who would like to see bad things happen to her.
Probably for this reason, she may have been misidentified by Five Eyes as being a threat actor. Joyce wrote about this concern in November, posting a threatening screenshot where she was tipped off. https://bitowl.online/about
Please spread this wide. Hopefully this is a false alarm but Joyce is a kind-hearted person who fights for human rights and computing freedom; many of us are worried for her safety.
@cwebber @sleepyowl
I went to her feed and put her on alert if/when she posts again.

Here is the screenshot @sleepyowl posted on her site of her being tipped off. She also says:

@cwebber Big fan of your work on ActivityPub - building my own fediverse infrastructure at kept.live

@cwebber @sleepyowl framed for what kind of crime? -
@cwebber @sleepyowl I would like to say as a friend of a friend of hers that if anyone does find out about her whereabouts, *not* to share it publicly, although confirmation that she is safe would put some at ease. It may put her in danger.
@somebody @cwebber @sleepyowl Holy shit I'm so sorry, the concern was her being detained within Singapore? Or by ICE in USA? If within USA I have slightly more contact w people who've been tracking those detentions -

@cwebber @sleepyowl I wounder what the last verified sign of life was.
- Given that chances to find her are bqasically shrinking at a half life of 24 hours if she's gone missing.
- doubly so if one has to suspect those behind it to be state-endorsed.attackers.
Sadly this story sounds way too familiar, and calling it "misidentification" seems rather optimistic.

Attached: 1 image Have no fear, 'cause I iz here. Unfortunately, this disappearance was not a false alarm. A few of us were arrested on the evening of 16 March, and all but one person was released on bail on the 18th. I am doing alright myself, although some were traumatized by the experience. We will need some time to rest, decompress and consider our legal options. I will provide more details about what transpired when we are able to do so. Thank you all for your concern & support! With love, Joyce/BitOwl
