Thanks for sharing this. The author gives voice to concerns I have about MT & MC.

I’m having a lot of fun with MC and I’m even trying to build a Meshcore repeater path for our kids to use it at school if needed.

But I’m seeing some node collecting tech bro enthusiasm that doesn’t seem too concerned about switching costs, mutual aid, or long term mesh planning. Just a burning desire to put a repeater on your roof so they can see an Ack from 1000 miles away.

@K3LOE tbh I am one of these pokemon collectors.
And I am often reading about "disaster communication" arguments at all mesh* communities. Here on fediverse, on discords of local groups, on forums, on Facebook groups and so on.

I cannot see how any network that relay on working mobile phone, PC, tablet... (And that's what's used the most in all three systems to interact with these dummy Lora modems) Can be assumed as disaster communication method.

I have PMR radio. And CB ... And both has instant receivers on most areas where are any people.

But geeky Lora based meshes are for fun, for personal usage (with kids, family, friends, conference, etc? Great!)
And not for any in case of emergency.

Blackout kills all rnodes and mobiles used for Mt and mc.

I love these technologies, but it's a nerd party only.

      With love
      Wiktor
