This one rail ticket / #PassengerPackage stuff in the past 24 hours is for me that weird moment when what I work on everyday temporarily goes mainstream

Some followers of mine stop and think “I wonder what Jon thinks?” while many many more just happily boost the exaggerated Commission line and news stories
@jon well for me this is the expression that people want this so badly that they do not read the articles, and jump to conclusions. So it is less a niche topic and more a politically neglected topic.

@jon ah, the issues of being (somewhat of an) expert on topics coming up on mainstream media..
Enjoy the ride, be clear about what's truthful and explain where the misinterpretation is coming from.
But you're probably already familiar with all that

@jon they did use a nice photo of Villefranche-sur-Mer, leaving aside that it's one of the borders that will be helped least by the proposal (only Trenitalia will be obliged to sell tickets and how many French people will know that?)
i think i have seen links to your or ERPU's stuff in all the reply threads except on Twitter where the replies were mostly asking the commission to deport brown people

@prefec2 Yes, but then *act*. Don’t just boost slogans! Trust there are people who know what they’re doing (but they might not be the ones writing the breathless stories)

@jon I'll try my very best.

@bovine3dom but the stats on anything I have written hard been tiny. At least two media I spent ages briefing didn’t use a word I said and went for the breathless Commission line instead.

@berend Sure. But we’re ultimately creating false hope here. I’m doing what I can to explain, but it feels like I’m barely afloat in a sea of shit.

@jon i came here today check the "what does Jon think"

"that cannot be as good/revolutionary/free of issues than the commission/media is communicating" -

@jon @bovine3dom They've been preparing the ground for said line for a couple years, haven't they?
"Single ticket" also sounds like less hassle (incredibly appealing to most people) when you don't know that the combined tickets you can buy today are quite possibly several tickets in a trenchcoat

Whenever there's rail related stuff I always think: "What does @jon think?" I usually wait for you to post, rather that tagging you
You're one of the few people I have notifications turned on for, so I don't miss a toot

@jon I've refrained from posting for the moment, as I've not had the time to properly look at the official line. I was too busy wrestling with some GTFS in between other things yesterday.
That being said, my opinion on the matter is pretty in-line with yours, so I’m not particularly hopeful.

@HaTetsu @jon @bovine3dom This whole through-ticket and single ticket business is almost as bad as direct flight v. non-stop flight in aviation.
