got good news from my doc.

got good news from my doc. The meds I were on were contributing to acute kidney injury. Being off of them, my filtration numbers are up. way up. closer to stage 3a/ stage 2, rather than the stage 4 I was at when the doctor first saw me.
potassium is kinda low now, which makes sense, because I've been EXTREMELY careful about that, since I was hospitalized, and well under the 3,000mg per day that is the daily recommended value. So, I can go back to enjoying tomatoes, avocados, bananas, and mushrooms as much as like, essentially.
long and short is that things are finally looking up. Thank goodness. Now, all I have to do is keep losing weight, and maintain my blood sugar.

man, I am so thankful to have a competent nephrologist. I can work out without feeling like shit, and my kidneys, while not in great shape, are not atrophying in my body currently. thank fucking god.

@da_667 That happened with my father. The blood pressure medicine he had been on for over a decade suddenly started hammering his kidneys, causing him to build up potassium in the bloodstream. Never got an explanation, just "Yeah, that can happen."

@nerdpr0f in my case, I was on spironolactone (might be misspelling that), which is a potassium-sparing diuertic, because I was low on it. and also to help with swelling and water retention in the extremities. After a while, I had too much potassium, and for like 10 months, I felt like shit. it got progressively worse until I was told to go back last month because I had way too much potassium.
