      @munin The thing is to the extent that airline travel must be hardened and secured, it is 100% a job that the airlines should be doing themselves.

      they are the ones who have the most to lose in any eventuality here. they are the only ones motivated to keep things moving at the pace of commerce. they are the only ones in a position to do things 100% differently -- say, using the Israeli model, where someone just looks you in the eye and asks you where you're going, and then ecalate with the .0001% of people who warrant it

      paying disinterested people the bottom end of a gs pay scale who have no motivation to make the experience as hassle-free as possible, and making them physically search people, and putting very invasive tech in their hands, is what you would do if you wanted to construct a case study in how everything can go wrong at once

      TSA's duties should be folded into carrier responsibilities and that's that.
