Community leaders have to leave the shit platforms and delete their presence there.

That's how migration happens. That is the key to making migration off of shit platforms happen. The major players need to go elsewhere, and burn the ships.

This whole Discord age verification business is textbook Enshittification. A single platform got enough people on it that we all went there, no real alternatives exist, and now it's gone bad and we're all holding each other hostage there.

I'm in some major Infosec & TTRPG servers, I'm seeing pretty much the same response from all of them. The first part is, "This shouldn't really effect our server". The second part is, "We've tried X/Y/Z service/platform, and no one came over there with us, so we deleted our account there."

The first part is...well it bums me the fuck out. Maybe most servers won't be effected by this - but at this point, anyone who stays on discord is complicit in the destruction of our rights to privacy. There is more at stake here than just whether or not server numbers might drop.

The second part is actionable -- But migration has to come from the leaders of substantial communities.

Let me reiterate: MIGRATION OFF OF SHIT PLATFORMS HAS TO COME FROM LEADERS OF SUBSTANTIAL COMMUNITIES.

Everyone is on Discord right now because there's not a suitable alternative. If I was the owner of whatever the largest server on Discord is, and I set up a Mastodon instance, and then told my community that we're now on Mastodon --

VERY FEW PEOPLE WILL COME OVER TO MASTODON. BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY ON DISCORD. THERE IS NO INCENTIVE TO LEAVE THE FIRST PLACE, THE SHITTY PLACE, AND GO TO THE GOOD PLACE -- UNLESS THE LEADERSHIP CREATES IT.

This doesn't just apply to Discord - This is applicable to every single Enshittified platform.

IF COMMUNITY LEADERS WITH MASSIVE AUDIENCES ON SHIT PLATFORMS GO TO A BETTER PLATFORM, TELL THEIR COMMUNITIES TO COME TO THAT NEW PLATFORM, AND DELETE THEIR PRESENCE ON THE SHIT PLATFORMS --

And that part -- That part is really key -- Let me reiterate:

AND DELETE THEIR PRESENCE ON THE SHIT PLATFORMS -- THEIR COMMUNITIES AT LARGE WILL FOLLOW THEM.

Otherwise there is no real incentive.

If I leave all the shit platforms (most of which I have), but the communities that I care about stay there, then nothing substantial has changed except my personal isolation.

We need to convince the leaders of substantial organizations/companies/communities to get all the way onto ethical platforms and burn down their presence on enshittified ones.
