@Elias @vicfroh yes, it has been attempted in several places. Free healthcare (in our case, the NHS, but also in places like Cuba, that developed Laser eye surgery) is one thing that comes from that.

@vicfroh i think generally its a fear of the means rather than the ends because increased welfare state and rights protections would mean more government control and interference. When you can't trust the institutions in place, giving them more control seems like a pretty bad idea.
