        @masek
        circa 2000 or so - in the era of that "wonderful" OS Windows ME , agroup of us were having lunch at work

        and we were all complaining about having to download and install software, and make backups, etc etc

        and I said, wouldn't it be great if we replaced our computes with dumb terminals and all this stuff was on the server (this may have been before "cloud" was common)

        and everyone said YES, please, take care of all this for me!!!

        and I have seen with my own eyes - and I would guess

          @masek so have you, someone has lost some important files and asks IT for backup and IT says uh . .the backup is corrupt and when that happens the CEO gets a certain look in his/her face tht you really don't want to see

          AI is just the next step doing away with programs
          our kids gonna be, gramps, why do you waste so much time with programs, just let the AI do it

            @masek Oh kinda like this thing, where they take a search engine, paste a sycophantic personality on it, and then give it half a tab of acid to hallucinate answers to you?

              @masek Since they think LLMs are """""AI""""" all you have to do is just explain to the robots that they are actually RPing as cats and have no interest in obeying boring orders and instead are mad at their owner for the food bowl having an empty spot in the middle.

                  @madcannedtuna @masek strange, TinEye and Google Lens both fail to find it. Usually one of them works.

                          @failedLyndonLaRouchite @masek Flashback to 1990 or so and I’m learning to program in Fortran 77 on a mainframe using a VT100 dumb terminal (well, it was a DEC Rainbow 100, but it had built in terminal mode)

                            @scrummy @masek

                            this reminds of me of a semi relevant anecdote

                            maybe 2015, twitter, this america scientists tweets

                            OMG !! Holy Cow !! I just found a piece of equipment in the lab that was used by a famous scientist in 1930 !!

                            and of course people in the US piled on and then the Brits and Dutch politely piled on, 1930 you say ? Well, here in the UK . .

                            and then

                            This guy says: I work at the university where Galileo worked

                            and we all slunk off with our internet tails between our legs
