In the book I'm reading, the author has the main character say "quotient" instead of "quota" (not the only grossly misused word).

In the book I'm reading, the author has the main character say "quotient" instead of "quota" (not the only grossly misused word). Is the character supposed to seem uneducated? Did the author lose her dictionary AND her editor? Not sure I can finish the book but I hesitate to return it to the library and have other readers exposed to this drek

@Beachbum Doesn't read as if it was written by AI, but maybe AI is being used for editing now?

@lfisk Hm. The character isn't written as if she'd use language that way. Maybe if it was an older character, or an academic, or maybe a snob.

@rejinl This dictionary gives some examples, which seem to use it a bit strange too?
