Kids these days don't appreciate that when my generation started using computers, it was common for the bytes read back to differ from the bytes written.

Kids these days don't appreciate that when my generation started using computers, it was common for the bytes read back to differ from the bytes written. Sometimes by a lot. In very important ways. But it was still magical and all we wanted to spend our time fiddling with.
