Due to ongoing pressure from governments globally, we are instituting an age verification program. Recognizing that it is not possible to confirm your age based on a picture of your face, we will instead be counting the number of rings you have. We understand this is the most accurate measure of age.

@jerry I wonder what type of rings you mean.

Rings with 1, without 1, commutative?

@jerry let's see, I have a Z[X]/(X²⁵⁶+1, 3329) here, some endomorphisms rings of supersingular elliptic curves, and my wedding ring. But I did opt for the Nest doorbell instead of the ring*, I hope that doesn't bite me now!

*I had to choose one or the other when buying the house "just a button that makes a ringing sound" was not an option

@nuintari @jerry Here's a weird tidbit. Did you know I am a certified internet business strategist (CIBS)? It's true. Back in '97, Novell offered that certification, and I took the test. It was unquestionably the hardest certification test I have ever taken. It was an internet history test, more or less. One of the questions was: "UseNet is run on NNTP. Before the NNTP protocol was established, what protocol did it use?"

@Sempf @jerry I misread this, I thought it asked what was used before UUCP, and I was all, "Nothing, it did not exist before UUCP."

                          I was very confused.

As a student of history who has had the privilege to meet and interview American and German WW2 Vets, I am filled with despair that nearly all of them are gone.

@Sempf @jerry FTP predates UUCP and even IP by a wide mile.

But Usenet exists because of UUCP. Same with Email.
