Trying out the fediverse for the first time today.

Trying out the fediverse for the first time today. I've been reading a lot about it, now it's time to figure out how it works and build an internet home here.
My goal is to figure out how I can bring https://gobikecamping.com/ into the fediverse and help people who love bike touring own their data and escape the metaverse.
#NewHere #introductionHi and welcome!
I'm mostly aware of the German bike fraction, but I'm sure there's plenty of people here posting in English.
It's probably been said to you before, but the best way to find people is using hashtags.
Also, you can set up an RSS feed on your website, and people can subscribe to it through the fediverse.
Wishing you all the best, and safe riding!

@lutindiscret @spencexyz oh oui, une alternative à Strava fédérée, ça serait tellement bien !
En tout cas il y a du monde au croisement du libre et du cyclotourisme / cyclisme qui pourrait peut-être aider !
Je relaie
And welcome @spencexyz, curious to follow what happens next! -

Someone else asked a similar question here, see the answers to this thread: https://mastodon.social/@ueb_team161 -
@clew right now it refers to content you put online, like photos and posts you make about your long distance bicycle adventures.
long term, I'd love to see a federated version of Strava. every year they cut down their api access further and further. but it's our data and we should be able to share with any external apps we want.
I'm trying to figure out how I can use the tools I'm building to expose more cyclists to the fediverse and help fuel that demand.
@spencexyz @clew you may want to take a look to wueride.bike and have a chat with @rolf

May I introduce: WueRide ... a #fediverse version of the social aspect of #komoot, i.e. a federated adventure log. With support for trips, multi trips (read: collections), images, stars & commenting. Currently rather a proof of concept, I hacked together over the last three days. Nothing fancy. (yet) See my profile for a first impression: https://wueride.bike/@stesie@wueride.bike Source code released under AGPLv3 here: https://codeberg.org/stesie/wueride

hey @Bonfire ! i saw this thread and thought you might be interested. there are currently solutions like OpenTracks for tracking physical activity statistics, but none have direct integration with ActivityPub for social sharing. A bonfire extension to integrate with an existing activity tracker could help many cyclists, hikers, runners, and more activity clubs migrate from Strava to communities on the fediverse
That'd be a cool extension indeed! Have you also looked at wanderer.to ?

Consideration, kindness, and courtesy are key values here afaik. When you post photos, remember to add alt text for those of us who use screen readers.
Also , if you ever post photos of combustion engine vehicles, use the content warning to protect sensitive souls. -

@spencexyz regarding a federated kind of Strava, do you know https://wanderer.to/ ? It recently added federation support and does the social part of Strava well.
... which is why I'm currently not working on #WueRide which @emeline mentioned. @clew
... and I really like the idea of having a federated decentralized "POI thingy" like your campsites in the USA, but not limited to that

@spencexyz Welcome. Map looks good but also looks like it covers USA only? Good to see another bike person, you're gonna find a lot of people alike on fedi

@ati1 the map has US and Canada. It could take points from anywhere, I've just been adding stuff that I know right now and promoting in groups for US cycling routes.
