I don't get it. How does showing my ID to your website protect kids? After all, I'm not a kid. My ID doesn't belong to a kid. How is violating my privacy to use a solution like Discord solve for keeping kids away from "icky" stuff online?
You may not be too shocked to hear this, but I don't really think that "age verification" solutions on general-use web sites is the way to protect kids online. But it is a great way to erode (if not dismantle) online privacy.
How Does Showing My ID To Your Website Protect Kids?
Step 1: Let your SaaS collect my ID. Step 2: Approve me as an adult. Step 3: ???? Step 4: Teens and children are safe!!! What?

@berniework the same way age verification to buy alcohol protects kids. If you can't prove you are at least this old you can't have this product or service.
Whether it's a good system or not is a different question. Underage drinking is a serious problem so to think website age verification is going to solve the problem is foolish -
