@ZachWeinersmith It's not, but people can choose not to allow it. (At least, the native functionality - you can always copy-paste, of course.)

I see this will be my most quote-tweeted post ever.

@ZachWeinersmith@mastodon.social somewhat, for some reason the quotes system on mastodon lets someone opt out of being quoted in their account settings

You can restrict the ability to quote, but it's largely pointless. You can't prevent someone from putting a link to your post (unless you make it followers-only) into another toot, and this shows up as if it were a quote. This post is not a quote toot of this.

Whereas this is a quote toot (quoot?). The difference here is that you get a notification of the quote. The only thing that disabling quotes gives you is less visibility into what happens.

@ZachWeinersmith@mastodon.social also a bunch of mastodon.social people really dislike quotes for some reason, some people got really annoyed when mastodon added a feature that could already be done with a link or a screenshot

@david_chisnall @ZachWeinersmith while you're explaining things, how do I create a quote of toot A in reply to toot B? I'm starting to think it's not possible in my (standard Android "Mastodon") client.

I believe it's actually a bug in the web client. Start by creating a reply, then hit quote and, instead of replacing the reply you were typing it makes it both a reply and a quote. This is the first time I've done it deliberately.

@david_chisnall @ZachWeinersmith This cannot be done with the official Mastodon web client, right?

@david_chisnall @ZachWeinersmith Ok, thank you. I can't do that in my client (at "then hit quote", I don't have that button). I'll try on the Web in a moment. Thank you!
