    When I was small, I had a book called the How, Why, When, Where Book, which was basically an encyclopaedia for children. It had great cutaways of a load of things. But the one of a commercial aeroplane had a load of cabins with beds in them and that left me totally unprepared for modern airliners.

      @david_chisnall how did the cost of a plane ticket at the time adjusted for inflation compare with the sort of ticket where you can still get a bed these days?

        @armb No idea. I've also no idea if 747s ever came in a configuration with little cabins. From the planes I've been on, there isn't enough physical space for the things that were depicted.
