I mainly run debian 13, but I have a pair of Win 11 IoT edition VMs loaded with all the windows-based software I need. I have two of them on separate proxmox hosts just in case something happens to one or the other.

there's still a lot of shit that I have to run that is primarily Windows. Like, MS Office. and I refuse to use their cloud app, or pay a fucking subscription to write a document.

@da_667 can you still use their apps without a subscription?

      Honest question, I'm not Windows.

@da_667 While I have 11 for hobbies and a backup work system, that will move me to some flavor of Linux faster than Microsoft's stock price falls...

@jackryder Well, I bought a copy of Office 2019 a while back however it was a single-use license. I have since re-used that single-use license for my VMs. So, at least Office 2019 is still standalone.

@da_667 Right sorry, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking about VMs.

@da_667 and then Apple drops the MacBook Neo this morning and obliterates the “Best Buy shopper” laptop market.

yeah... folks love to say "just use libreoffice" but if you have clients/work that are on windoze, sharing a doc back and forth doesn't work well. i still have a "local" copy of office and will keep using it until it's finally no longer at all compatible. hopefully by then, office/365/copilot will have died the horrible death it deserves and the world will have moved on.

@da_667 I’m running Win10 IoT 2021 on a couple of my machines. Once those are done, I’m done with windows

@johnley @da_667 I may have convinced my mom to swap out her Windows laptop for the Neo already.

Apple is going to lay waste to Windows laptops in that price segment.
