New post: Goodbye, Ring. I’m Not Buying Into Your Mass Surveillance.
Ring’s Super Bowl ad tried to make surveillance feel wholesome.
I’m not buying it.
Search Party, default opt-in scanning, and the constant drift toward “your neighborhood as a sensor network” was my last straw. I’m removing my Ring.
Goodbye, Ring. I'm Not Buying Into Your Mass Surveillance.
Ring’s Super Bowl ad tried to sell a heartwarming story. I saw default opt-in surveillance getting normalized, and I’m done.

@dhry Yeah, if this doesn't support Matter or connects to Apple Home ... it's a no for me.

@cyberseckyle Maybe the real issue here is relying all one service like Apple Home to run things like this.
While I understand the convenience, it's not always good to have all your eggs in one basket.
Tapo has an amazing ecosystem that just works and works well. I would seriously consider looking into it and not just relying on Apple Home for everything.

@cliffwade @dhry Or, maybe,
I could be wrong, but the real issue here is, privacy concerns for one. Isn’t TP-Link a Chinese company, do I want my shit sent to china…um no thanks. Then second, do I want to have to use multiple apps/sources for this camera, these lights, this sensor, etc? Not very convenient.
