Alright friends, I've got a real need. I want a collaboration suite for myself and a few others.

I don't want Teams, or Slack. Ideally I'd like a hosted option in Europe as I will not have time to manage a self-hosted installation, it's not where my energy should be directed right now.

Collaboration, for me, means Chat + Video, calendars and simple file-sharing options.

I'm currently using Proton privately, and could consider using this for a business as well.

What options are available? Do we have favourite soluitions?

@nopatience Proton and/or Nextcloud, although Proton doesn't have chat.

I juggle those two myself with some in each.

@joho has NC hosting, but I don't know if it includes Talk.

I'm thinking that perhaps a hosted NextCloud installation might be useful?

@nopatience@swecyb.com I have my own Nextcloud instance hosted in my basement. It's Talk module has the Chat/Video features. File sharing is baked in, and calendars app available as well. Seems to work well from my single user uses, I'm sure it would work well for a small team.

@nopatience I've heard good things about Cryptpad but I've not used it myself. Their cloud offering appears to be hosted in France.

@nopatience I'm using kSuite by Infomaniak (https://www.infomaniak.com/en/ksuite/ksuite-pro) which is based in Switzerland for my personal needs (for my family emails, agenda and file sharing, basically).
kSuite is a sort of alternative to Google Workspace, so you have an equivalent of most commonplace Google Workspace products: email (but it's not what you're looking for), file sharing (like Google Drive), chat, video meetings, agenda sharing.

While it works for my family, it seems to be more designed for SMBs and could meet your needs.

@nopatience I've been using TabDigital as a managed hosting provider for NextCloud. Their servers are in the Netherlands. Reasonable pricing and prompt support. Got a small instance for family and a bigger business one for a client. Been using them for over a year now without complaints.

Our shared Nextcloud hosting has talk, but no calls.

In our isolated instances, you can activate anything you want.

@nopatience A hosted Nextcloud is most likely going to be your best option. Most of the hosted options are located in Europe so that should work well for you

@nopatience Given your preference for a hosted European solution and existing use of Proton, have you evaluated whether Proton's business offerings meet your specific needs for integrated chat, video, calendars, and file-sharing?

@newsgroup I will definitely take a look at it. Had not realized they now had a more "business" like offering!

@nopatience Great. Their business suite is relatively new, so it's worth a close look to see if the integration feels seamless for your team.
