So, anyone want to hire me?

@Mutedog @NosirrahSec This market is absolutely bananahammocks.
It's a perfect storm of ghost postings, applicant stuffing, ATS shenanigans, and shitty economy.
@scottpack @Mutedog@mastodon.social @NosirrahSec don't forget being added to their marketing mailing list and never contacting you about your application.

@generalx @NosirrahSec Tell me about it. Since December 9th I've applied to 150 jobs. Of those 77 have just glittered away into the void.

50% response rate? Do tell your secret! Was job searching '24-'25 and I gave up on looking in infosec. Landed in Customer Success. Not an infosec salary, but it beats starving.
I don't have a positive view of our in-house security - they're chest pumping cert holders spreading Mythos marketing fear while the competent hackers can't even get a screening.
Good luck though.

So, anyone want to hire me? I'll work for 50k, you basically get a $150k IT/Infosec nerd for free at 50k
It's better than starving to death.

@NosirrahSec almost the same boat. I've been mulling over starting my own consultancy, but my spicy brain does not deal with normies in ways they expect.

@scottpack @generalx @NosirrahSec hiring managers are all chasing for unicorns and rainbows near the ends of pots of gold. The glitter is a by-product of their searches.

@generalx @NosirrahSec The _vahst_ majority of the responses are the form filled "Thanks for applying but piss off." But you're not wrong, it's been a higher response rate than I expected even if it's still embarrassingly low for them.
I've spent the last 5-odd years on the consulting side doing vCISO style engagements as an engineer/architect. What you described for internal folks is definitely a problem, and usually a self-perpetuating culture issue. It can be a hard mindset to break without replacing the security or technology leadership.
Are you any happier in the CSM world?

@scottpack @generalx I wouldn't even say I'm skilled, I don't even know where I lie on the chart because I've literally never once worked with a colleague that was as deep in general security skills as I am and I'm fucking new as shit professionally.
It's just bad luck that I join an org, get promised security roles that never manifest?
I try my fucking best to grow that culture from within, show the value of security offerings to clients, etc.
Nada. For 5 years.
Then laid off on my 5 year anniversary with no severance, no bonus, and withheld my review knowing they didn't want to give me my bonus.
I'm almost losing hope, up until yesterday, that I'm ever going to find a role doing what I love.

@scottpack @generalx but I've worked with rich dudes with ten certs that I wouldn't even give viewer access in Meraki because they're too incompetent to digest the info
Those dudes making 150-200+ and can't do shit.

@scottpack @generalx (by work with, I mean at a client as THEIR internal staff they didn't vet through us first)

@scottpack @generalx so now they have a senior director of information security that on day one fired off a fucking ridiculous level of alerts on my dashboard, no warning, no greeting, nothing.
I responded with the nuclear option and this cute kid had the balls to be upset i nuked him from orbit and every identity/session across every single thing I could

@scottpack @generalx the fuck you expect me to do? Your endpoints and cloud activity in Azure were tripping more alarms than I've ever seen.
I treated it like a live fire to extinguish.
And I'll fucking do it again, kid.

@scottpack @generalx /rant off
It just makes me so angry that I can't find work and I'm so painstakingly in love with my work, but these clownshoes can land director level roles by lying.
It's disgusting. I'm punished for being honest in every single way in life it seems.

@vandorb12 this is a genuine concern of mine, too!

@TheHorrorOfEmbrodery I have a much, much, much, better chance of being referred to a real job posting from here than LinkedIn by miles.
You should, and I mean this as respectfully as I possibly can, go fuck yourself right into a coma and then wake up and rethink your entire life.
