    I think I've deduced the reason for my sporadic shortness of breath (SOB) for the past couple of years: iron deficiency. I've taken famotidine for a long time due to GERD, sometimes I try to stop taking it and eventually the GERD comes back. And the SOB comes and goes...perhaps in a lagging relationship with the famotidine use (?) but I don't have the data to confirm that. Well recently I was pretty frustrated with the SOB and my doc had no ideas. I almost went to see a cardiologist but I canx the appt after I kept digging for the most simple answer and came up with iron deficiency, which has variously been associated with both acid reducers and shortness of breath. I started taking an iron supplement daily, maybe 3 weeks ago? And my breathing now is FINE. After 2 years of off & on SOB I think I cracked the case. I have a checkup in April and will be pleased to report the end of this long term issue. #medicine #health

      @Nonya_Bidniss 🤞 Hope that has indeed solved it. It’s so dispiriting that in the age of so-called modern medicine we have to diagnose/solve our own issues. Surely your doc should have known if SOB can be caused by iron deficiency, and therefore should have thought to order blood tests to check your iron (and ferritin) levels. “No ideas”, smh.

        @Nonya_Bidniss Oh, interesting! I take famotidine as well and started an iron supplement to help with RLS, which might have gotten worse around the same time. I kinda remember having some shortness of breath a while ago - light enough that I thought it was stress or imagined it, but now I’m wondering…🤔

          @Nonya_Bidniss
          Interesting. Any specific type of supplement, or just "iron"?
