I'm sure the odds of getting that check are as good as the odds of my dad depositing it. Dad died in 2017.
However, they included email addresses to respond to. You likely know where this is going.

Dear T FORDHAM
My name is Edward Walker-Partner and Head of Private Wealth & Succession at AVENUE SOLICITORS. I sincerely apologize for the unsolicited nature of this message as we have not had any prior communication. But the importance and sensitivity of the conversation necessitated this measure.
I am reaching out to discuss a sensitive and significant matter concerning an unclaimed "permanent life insurance policy" from one of our late clients, Late Mrs. Maria FORDHAM, who unfortunately passed away approximately four years ago due to Covid-19 complications. Mrs. FORDHAM, a respected Stock Broker and Retired CPA, left behind a "Payable on Death" (POD) savings account valued at approximately Ten Million Eight Hundred Thousand, Twenty United States Dollars ($10,800,020.00).
Despite exhaustive efforts, we have been unable to locate any living relatives or claimants to her estate.
According to regulations set forth by the insurance company, unclaimed policies must be surrendered to the state's abandoned property division after a period ranging from two to four years post-notification.Given the absence of direct claimants and based on the significant surname similarity and shared nationality with the deceased, I propose an opportunity for you to be recognized as the beneficiary of this policy. Should you consent to this partnership, I assure you this process will be executed with utmost professionalism and confidentiality.
Proposal Details:
Charitable Donation: 10% of the retrieved funds will be allocated to various charity organizations.
Distribution: The remaining 90% of the funds will be equitably shared between us 50% each. This opportunity is presented without any associated risks and is compliant with legal standards. We are prepared to provide all necessary documentation and support required to substantiate your claim effectively.
We aim to resolve this matter promptly, estimating that the process could take approximately thirty (30) business days from the receipt of your consent.
If you are interested in this offer, kindly send an email to [redacted] a copy (CC) [redacted] and we will take it from there.
Your prompt response to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Edward Walker2/x

#scamMy email response:
Dear Sir:
I received your letter addressed to my father, Thomas Lysander Fordham, about the inheritance from Mrs Maria Fordham.
I have heard some stories about a Maria Fordham, but if they are the same Maria I must say she really cleaned up her life.
I am writing to you because my father, unfortunately, is no longer with us. I am afraid he finally succumbed to the wounds he acquired while serving in the United States Marine Corps.
As his heir, naturally I am interested in this. However, I am not sure why you get to decided that 10% of my inheritance goes to charity, and 45% goes to you. That seems quite steep, that you should be able to dictate the outcome of 55% of my money.
I am, of course, open to you being paid a reasonable fee for your time and assistance in this matter.
I look forward to hearing from you.
George Fordham

#scamBTW if you didn't know: My dad's middle name was not Lysander. Nor was his first name Thomas. My name is not George, and I have no idea who Maria Fordham is/was nor what she did to gain such a bad reputation

Dear George Fordham,
Thank you for e-mail and inquiry.
I very much appreciate your interest and curiosity. Find attached further details on the next step towards a successful claim.
Looking forward to your reply with the required information as listed below:
[snip usual nonsense]---
Bro, you didn't even read my email? I'm hurt. Plus I can see the different font where you copied and pasted my name in.I responded with:
"You have completely ignored my concern about the dispersal of funds"
We'll see if they respond.

@Bfordham if he replies, keep making your sign offs more and more outrageous until they end up something like “until we end up in the loving embrace of our many-tentacled lord, good wishes, George”

@kpl Great idea. I'll have to start ramping up the crazy. I'm interested to see if they'll try to "negotiate" with me
