@ppb1701 I remember some instances of foreign-made devices being banned in government and official circles. This is a much bigger target.

@AAKL Insanely bigger. This pretty much lights a powder keg on basically every home network (or small business that went for saving a few bucks)

@ppb1701 So, what happens to existing routers currently in use by households? Do they get recalled? Do companies replace them for free? And then what? Do they get replaced by a more up-to-date surveillance version?

@AAKL @ppb1701 i will be surprised if there is a plan at all. Pleasantly so if it isn't "Fuck you buy a new one at a massive markup"

@AAKL Currently they get updates till next year. then they get no more updates, unless the maker gets an exemption for the DoD/DoW/DHS, the deadline gets punted like tiktok ban kept getting, or in the interim it's dropped. If you own the hardware it's basically your problem. If you lease it from Xfinity or someone...well technically it's their problem....but they aren't going to want to shell out millions and millions of new hardware if any legal at that point exist to all those custormers.

@ppb1701 No, but they might be willing to do an exchange after they're done appealing their case to their buddies in power.

@ppb1701 That would fit the established practice.

@AAKL But to note, right now there was nothing for any trade out/reimbursement provisions. It was more of this is the rules now, make it happen.

@ppb1701 Yeah. But I'll agree with you there will be a major sob show and things will ease up a bit after that.

@AAKL yeah I figure after everything goes to disaster there will be much finger pointing and something will change "so it doesn't happen again"
