    @heidilifeldman

    Orlando's mayor, Buddy Dyer, is a good man and a Democrat. He is powerless to stop this, and ORL has a very large immigrant community.

    Orlando mayor says city can’t legally stop ICE detention center from opening

    A few municipalities across the country have discussed or even passed measures to stop an ice facility from opening in their communities.

    @heidilifeldman

    The more I think about this, the more I think organizing an ongoing protest would be fairly easy to do, and could add in many of the visitors to the area.

    It's not that far from the parks, and right off of the Beeline for anyone going from Orlando to the eastern beaches.

    It's not like their freaking Alcatraz, this is right near all the tourist destinations.

    And freaking Daniel Webster... I thought we'd gotten rid of him.

      @heidilifeldman This is good. The camps will be needed when MAGAmoron, his criminal cult, all the MAGAt supporters and all their MAGAt families are rounded up.

                Bloomberg, too, needs a new headline writer. ICE is not spending millions on **warehouses.** It's buying and building prisons for people who should never be in one.

                          Merrimack's town government sent them a letter saying No, thanks.

                              @heidilifeldman @benroyce They are not building ‘prisons’ (which would imply due process had been followed) nor ‘warehouses’ (because they’re not storing commodities or goods), they’re building good old fashioned concentration camps. Doubtless the main objections will come from the NIMBYs.

                                Instead of buying warehouses, they should be paying their debts:

                                    It's incredible,when you think about it, billions of dollars taken away from program that helped people to later invest them in programs that hurt people.

                                          That's exactly right! In my state we are even driving out into the country to protest outside proposed concentration camp sites, and they are getting more pushback from the locals than they expected. The presence of such a facility does not create jobs for locals, and it hurts property values. People are listening to those arguments if they don't already care about the moral aspect.

                                          Pressure IS working, it just doesn't work all at once.
