      Trump is moving the USS Tripoli from Japan to The Middle East. On board is 5000 marines and MV-22B Osprey helicopters used for ground insertion.

      This is exactly what you would do if you were planning to use your already available 50,000 troops for a ground invasion of Iran.

        @randahl imo his only plan was to drag this out until mid terms. Although I do think a war not on USAmeric soil wouldn't allow to suspend elections. Then again, who in this rogue regime cares about laws?!

          @randahl maybe a more pointed operation as even 50000 is not enough for full Invasion.
          They could try to secure the Iranian coast along the hormuz straight to seize Control. A look at the terrain is not very inviting, so

            @randahl Don't much like this. Assuming an attempt to control the coastline, a lot of these guys won't be coming home. And those that do will be poisoned by residue of munitions used to pound the cliffs to powder before the landing. But maybe by the time it's over the US junta will have enough control over the media that the public won't hear about that second part. Victory at the cost of losing.

                @randahl and when those lives, that equipment, that ship is lost, the flags will still remain flying high— because those troops are not as important to him as Charlie Kirk and the RW frenzy he could whip up. Which is also why he keeps the widow Kirk connected to his persona.

                  @fgbjr @randahl Victory in Republican admins, comes by statement, not by facts. And this admin is swimming in fictional narratives of their own creation. Don’t believe your lyin’ eyes.

                    @randahl

                    Insertion ?

                    I think that the correct word in this administration is now ( check notes ) excursion .

                    It is an excursion….

                    Trump calls war in Iran a ‘little excursion’

                    Trump declared the U.S. has already “won” the war with Iran “in many ways,” but conceded that broader objectives of the conflict remain unresolved.
