@inthehands There have been murmurings of one for may 1st ( https://paydayreport.com/labor-leaders-warm-to-general-strike-nationwide-on-may-1st/ ),
The timing is a bit slower, but, to organize a national general strike at scale, it's going to be a bit of a pain to put together.
Pressuring union/labour leaders, and other community members//leaders - your church, friends, coven, polycule, D&D group, whatever - to participate, and to pressure their people to participate, increases the odds of it happening, ofc.This is the first time I have seen Payday Report pop up on the Masto circle!

@inthehands So to the point about local businesses... Part of me thinks that those *shouldn't* shut down in a strike because if people use those businesses that's money not going to the billionaires.
I'm interested to know how other folks think about it though because I honestly don't know what strategies make the most sense toward the objective of pressuring folks with their hands on the levers of power to take action.
@nanobri @inthehands The whole idea of business *owners* deciding whether to strike is really weird to me, very American, and just feels wrong. The *workers* should decide, and the business *owner* should have no choice but to close because he has no workers that day; they have all called in sick.

If Trump tries to prevent a fair election from happening, then we need “a true national strike in the sense that, if they do this, if they try to overthrow our democracy, if you are allied with democracy, do not go to work . If you’re a pilot, do not show up. If you drive a train, do not show up. If you’re a teacher, do not show up. We grind the country to a halt.”

@inthehands Here in Brasil Bolsonaro tried to use (I don't know how to translate that) a federal police that work in roads(?!). Anyway... They were trying to stop people to vote. Here in Brazil os mandatory. "We hate, but we like that". THAT IS Just ONE of The causes why Bolsonaro still in jail until today. I don't know how You gonna sava Your ellectins.

@inthehands Love your proposal.
The only way to win an argument with capitalism is through its denial.
Some say, if the remaining democratic states would sell all their U.S. state bonds, Trumps show would be over instantly.
In a consumer producer cycle, all the power lies with the consumer/investor.
The powerful know that. The real problem is not to convince capitalism that we can bring it down, but convincing the majority of ourselves that we have that ability.

@inthehands cuck Shumer & co will send a strongly worded letter to pedo in chief how naughty it was to stop elections, instead they will reserve all their energy to oppose any meaningful actions like a general strike.

It has always seemed to me that if you can organise an air traffic controller's strike everything else will grind to a halt. -

@inthehands don't wait to do that... Do it now. I've been saying this for a year already.
Last time during the civil rights movement, it took just 11 million people... Imagine if 50 million went on strike.
Just know that they will try to break it, they will murder people on the streets and they will use it to justify further fascist ideals.
Strike and don't stop until the govt falls.

@inthehands - except that since it's absolutely clear already that yes, they absolutely plan to steal the election, the time for a general strike is now. As in right fucking now. Down tools & walk & don't come back until the regime has fallen.

@ginger_tosser @melioristicmarie @inthehands then Labor Day is actually a great deadline. The first three are warnings; three strikes and we're out. Everything stops on Labor Day and doesn't restart.

And to the rest of the world. Because he is intruding on the world order.
BABA ( BUY ANYTHING BUT AMERICAN) -
@ginger_tosser @inthehands i would be thrilled for may day to be the start of an indefinite general strike, in solidarity globally against the morbidly wealthy to; arrest netanyahu and bring all collaborators of the palestinian genocide to justice while supporting the palestinian people in self governance; bring the epstein collaborators to justice; impeach the current u.s. president and cabinet; abolish i.c.e. and hold trials for all violence; end u.s. slave labor (remove the 13th amendment exclusion); hold shareholders personally financially and criminally responsible for corporate products and behaviors; end stock ownership of any kind by elected representatives; medicare for all with congress and constituents sharing the same coverage; end for profit healthcare; require residential housing ownership be limited to residents (max of three years between owner occupancy); and well whatever else folks demand these are just mine to start.
but if we start juneteenth or independence day or labor day... let's go.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell
One of the lessons of Jan 23 is that “ASAP” is not a plan. You really have to pick something specific in the future — a data, or a trigger — and do sustained planning around it.@inthehands @GhostOnTheHalfShell We don't have to warn them when we're going to pull the plug, just that we're going to do so.
Let them decide how anxious it makes them to sit with the uncertainty.

@inthehands @Anomnomnomaly National Stay at Home Day (emergency personnel exempt).
I really like having it on May Day, because it would get all those old anti-communist buggers' knickers in a real twist. We could even sing Billy Bragg's version of "The Internationale," to really piss them off.

It seems like only yesterday that I was screaming at Sen. Gallego for voting for Trump cabinet nominees.
And next month you'll be screaming again as they wave through some godawful compromise...

@dcdeejay
Yup. A lot of replies are missing the point that we have to •prepare• now in order for this to happen months in the future. People want the whole collective consciousness to suddenly turn on a dime. Groundwork!! -
This part is especially important (emphasis added):
“If we have to destroy the stock market to save democracy, we need to accept that and, more importantly, •••the richest and the most powerful people in the world and in this country need to understand that that is a real possibility.••• There is no economic stability without democratic stability. If you take away our democratic stability, we will take away the economic stability.”

It's surreal to me that we have ended up in such a wiked tendril of the multiverse scheme.
One day I'm watching Shoah thinking this'll never happen again and then here we are.
History, man.

Groundwork!!@inthehands @dcdeejay Yes, and ideally, you want to show proof of the threat by starting now, creating immediate pain (like unsubscribing, boycotts, etc.) in the hope that they’ll react and prevent a total economic disaster. I’m all for breaking everything if it means saving democracy, but if we can achieve the goal with minimal damage, even better.
