        @gsuberland I am really annoyed at myself for cheaping out on buying new hard drives because I didn't *immediately* need them and didn't expect them to also go through the roof (though not as badly as the rest)

          @dysfun I really wanna upgrade my lab machine. it's running an i7-4790K / 32GB DDR3 / 980Ti, which is no slouch despite its age, but now I'm doing a lot more stuff in Fusion up here it's really bottlenecking on only having 4 cores and the yester-year quantity of cache.

          currently looking at a 7700X (twice as many cores, higher base and boost clocks, twice the L1, lots more L2, twice the L3/core, and IPC uplift), a cooler, an X870 board, and 2x32GB DDR5, for about £600. the RAM is £240 of that.

                @halcy if you just want a basic ass 500GB SATA with no DRAM cache then you can get those cheap. but 1TB NVMe SSDs are still like... 300% the price they were before this mess started.

                  @halcy I had no choice but to buy one a while back and it *really* stung. I think I paid 3.5x the price it had been just a few months earlier.

                        @gsuberland Maybe for DDR5 modules.

                        Have you seen what Digikey wants for loose DDR4 ICs? $300+ for a single 16Gbit IC

                          @azonenberg @gsuberland We're specing out a new embedded Linux design at work and it's painful.
