      @DrEdBridges

      Nationalise them, make all parking free! Let's get the country moving again. #ukgovernment you can afford it - £53 million tinkering because you can't get the tax system fair.

          Somebodies have stripped the profit out until it crashed. Who owned it, I wonder if a Hedge Fund was involved?

              @RichRARobi Parking shouldn't be free. Motorists SHOULD be charged for the space they take up in town and city centres. But I shan't shed any tears for the companies who seek to price-gouge for private profit rather than for any wider social benefit.

                @DrEdBridges I expect that's exactly how they went bust. If they're the most expensive option and other options are available, then no sensible motorist is going to park in the NCP car park.

                Monopoly-style pricing when you don't actually have a monopoly is not a great business strategy.

                    @statsguy Indeed. And that’s what happens when - as was the case here - you’re owned by venture capitalist / private equity / bastards. Focussed solely on short-term maximisation of profit rather than long-term sustainability of the business.

                        @DrEdBridges Yeah. That's one of the reasons why the German economy has often done so much better than ours. Very many of their businesses are family-owned, and they are much more focused on long-term sustainability.
