@jcrabapple The sad reality is, over 2/3 of Americans are religious, and the global ratio is higher.

It is not possible to have credible democracy AND exclude such people.

@wesdym Thankfully those numbers are shrinking quickly, but these people are dangerous. They have nothing to live for and no motivation to make this world a better place if they think they're going to a better place later anyway.

@jcrabapple My own sense is that if you dig around enough, you can find a faith tradition that says just about anything you want. The problem is, the larger and more powerful ones are either incapable of dealing with modern problems effectively, or as here are themselves part of those problems.

As much as I'd like religion to die, we have to deal with the humanity we have, not what we wish for. The future requires us to grapple with this difficult reality, because presently there is no other.

@blaue_Fledermaus @giordy @BrianJopek I'm sorry if my oversimplified irony did offend you in any way.

It did not offend me, I'm well aware these people love to take parts of the Old Testament and use it to hurt people. (And I used to be one of them)

@BrianJopek One of the biggest reasons we give billions to Israel annually because unhinged evangelical voters and politicians believe the current state of Israel will bring forth the return of Jesus and the end-times. It's absolutely fucking insane.

@lawyersgunsnmoney @BrianJopek Sounds like some members of the military finally see what they will need to do to save this country even if it means sacrificing themselves.

@blaue_Fledermaus @giordy They do it with anything and anyone, unfortunately. My /supposed/ irony tries only to ridicule the little persons that they are.
              (I'm sorry)

@lawyersgunsnmoney @GhostOnTheHalfShell @BrianJopek religious fanatics with nukes and a big army. I hope it won't be as bad it looks now.
At least they're not yet attacking countries that have nukes as well.

My favorite part of their batshit End Times narrative is how well it ends for us Jewishes if we don't convert on the spot. Which is fine I guess, because I wouldn't want to continue living anyway.

Mr. Trump. We must nuke the Middle East to bring Jesus back along with the apocalypse. People will definitely forget about all those Epstein files.

@BrianJopek Be really curious to hear what they say when that doesn’t happen.

The military didn’t light the signal fire right?
Not enough soldiers believed it hard enough?

                        @reay @BrianJopek

Christians have been saying Christ will be coming back any day now since the founding of Christianity.

After ~1,800 years, they've gotten really good at making up excuses.
