I tried to introduce my son, Alex, to programming when he was young. He wasnât interested. But he eventually found his way to it on his own. By the time Alex graduated high school, he had put his first app into the App Store.
Now, after 4 years at WPI, Alex has a BS in Computer Science and a Masterâs in Data Science, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. (Yes, he received the maximum possible grade in every undergraduate and graduate class he took in all 4 years!)
We are immensely proud of him!
ď¸@siracusa congrats from a WPI CS alum!

@siracusa every time Iâve tried to hire in the last few years weâve gotten absolutely drenched in resumes. Hundreds and hundreds pile up in Greenhouse. Going through them all with any sort of care is impossible. A significant percentage are people just feeding our job description into Claude and having it crap out the perfect resume. Itâs demoralizing.
That said, if Alex sees anything interesting at https://careers.upstart.com/jobs Iâm happy to submit a referral!
@Kubi Iâll have him check it out, but at a glance, I donât see many positions that donât require â3+ years experienceâ or similar. Itâs tough out there for a new gradâŚ

ď¸@siracusa Rad.
First time I think I can remember reading a Siracusa byline, I was younger than him (circa 2001).

Also on my mind: my son may be part of the last generation of programmers to have learned to program in the days before LLMs.
@siracusa The boy, mine (15) is no llm for the moment.

Apple folks: Alex has been applying to open positions at Apple, and he is willing relocate to California. But so far, he hasnât gotten any sort of response. If you want a smart, dedicated developer whoâs a fast learner, please check out his resume, which is already in your system!

@siracusa is he interested in a data science career? Itâs all the fun of programming & the fun of statistics combined & very trendy with the AI/LLM people.
(Iâm not hiring sadly and I also live in Ireland, but itâs worth checking out - Apple are hiring like mad as well in that area, maybe he can fix Siri ) -

@siracusa Congrats to Alex!!
Iâve been thinking the same thing about myself having also just graduated in CS. It has been an adventure watching classes start to adjust. Itâll certainly be interesting to see how newer programmers skills differ from my own. I sure hope that I didnât just miss an important shift in CS education. -

ď¸@siracusa Congratulations! My absolute favorite college to do a show. Their âLens And Lightsâ club were better crew than most professional house crews.
