            @foone I didn't have UPSes with alarms that could be turned off until I got a parrot.....that lesson was learned quick

                I have made a terrible discovery.
                My laptop is plugged into the wrong side of my UPS. My laptop isn't supposed to be on my UPS, because this UPS is here so that my electric recliner can always be safely escaped during an emergency.

                So yeah my laptop drained my chair's batteries and now I'm stuck

                  @foone this is terrible, but—assuming the laptop is running Windows 98, or some such (I suppose you’d want WiFi, so maybe ME)—very appropriate.

                        @foone Recliners should be created with a failsafe capacitor which provides enough charge to move it to an escapable configuration when it loses external power - what do you think?

                              @foone Oh I’m sorry.

                              It amazes me how bad UPS are at this. Mine has outlets, all black, with a thin white silkscreen explaining which side is which. You have to be up close to read it.

                              Why not use colors like hospitals? Normal for normal and orange for backed up. Or yellow.

                              Or how about only backed up outlets only?

                              Bad design.

                                      @foone I turned off the beep on all of my UPSes except one for more or less this reason (and hope I don't accidentally lose a single circuit or the wrong phase and need to be notified about it), but the dual-fed Supermicro power supplies are very unhappy about power loss too and I'm not sure I can do anything about them.

                                        @seabass @foone you usually see their transformer bricks with a slot for a 9v battery. Haven't actually tried it, but I guess it'd be just enough to unbind the worm gear so you can manually move the recliner.

                                          @seabass @foone I think this calls for replacing your recliner with the most famous product of Martin-Baker Ltd.

                                          They almost certainly don't want to exit the recliner through the ceiling though. 3:O(>
