The other day I saw someone go ‘I’m a proud Canadian and I’m not xenophobic but I really don’t like immigrants from India because they are not environmentally friendly’ and people were like ‘what do you think our country does to the environment’

Maybe just me but I much prefer the direct form of racism, which is why British / Canadian / Australian racism is so fucking annoying

@skinnylatte Wow, they really kept digging deeper and deeper

@skinnylatte This is very common, sadly, including on the left. The idea that, because we (we as in white people) don't do the direct racism, we cannot be racist, even though, when the right buttons are pushed, we so obviously are

Goes for other forms of 'tolerance' too.

@sindarina the only people who think there isn’t racism in those places are white leftists from all those countries lol

@skinnylatte Not just you. Similarly, I find the Midwest’s racism more annoying than the Southeast’s. Midwest is hidden whereas here it’s just in your face so you know who exactly you are dealing with right away, rather than finding out a year down the road your new friend is racist as fuck when something happens and they let it out because they cant hide forever their true nature.

@skinnylatte lol, no country that is a major oil exporter gets to claim the "environmentally friendly" high ground.

Canada cuts down a shockingly large number of trees to supply the US construction industry. Our homes are made of Canadian pine. (We here in the US also cut down a shockingly large number of our own trees.)

@bruce not „your“ trees. If the trees could belong to someone, in contradiction to the real Americans (yes, the Nativw Americans) value system, they would belong to the same Native Americans. @Andres4NY @skinnylatte

Living in East Texas, it's easy to figure out where the racists are. They're fucking everywhere, and it doesn't take too long for them to let you know.

@skinnylatte Holy shit! That’s fucking brilliant! And heartbreaking! And timely!

️Thanks for sharing.
And FWIW, I’ve met folks here on Mastodon who are from Edmonton and who are *nothing* like that awful couple! (As someone from Central Canada, I wanted to acknowledge that the regressive oil-patch Albertan stereotype doesn’t apply to everyone there!)
