and firecrackers??
i have a good friend who lived in SF for many years and now lives in monterey. when she was back in SF she was just standing in the most 'normal' scenes to me (among all the screaming cantonese aunties of chinatown) and she was like.. i really.. needed this back in my life.
when i spent half my time in monterey, i definitely felt very disconnected from that part of my life (language, food, people)
i don't think i can live in that environment again

Oh I didn't realize they're at the same time this year.
The area between Bay Ridge and Sunset Park where restaurants have their signs in Arabic and Chinese has got to be absolutely wild right now

@skinnylatte it’s why, even though the west coast sounds wonderful, i cannot fathom living in a USA place without a majority of Puerto Ricans and Carib people. we set the tone wherever we live as majorities and that makes it easier to live in a hostile environment.

@blogdiva @skinnylatte being boricua in the west coast hits different. We get extremely excited when we run into each other and we find ways to experience the joy of where we come from, but the isolation is real and I miss it terribly.
