Matrix (specifically Element with Spaces) is the only platform that will one day provide an experience similar to what Discord provides today on an open, federated, secure protocol.

Everything else is a distraction in my eyes, even if there are still some rough edges here and there today.

@pojntfx matrix has been around for almost a decade and they still can’t manage to make a decent app

@pojntfx matrix with spaces, specially on element, couldn’t be further away from the experience on discord. Fluffy Chat and Cinny have better views for spaces, but even so matrix still completely lacks integration between different groups in the same space (even for simple moderation tools) and a bunch of features something would need to be properly called a “discord alternative”.
And that’s not to mention all the security vulnerabilities they knowingly ship, the fact that the only scalable implementation of the protocol is kept proprietary by them and, of course, the fact they’re developed by nazis.
XMPP is implementing spaces too and then it’ll already be on-par with matrix as far as “discord alternative” goes, while being a far better candidate to actually being improved into a proper discord alternative as xmpp is actually extensible. Its user experience is a lot less depressing than matrix already, and while the encryption isn’t perfect it’s still not as bad as matrix.
And if they only do spaces sightly better than matrix they’ll already be way better on being a discord alternative anyway. Matrix is the distraction here. A distraction that’s funded by law enforcement and that knowingly ships security vulnerabilities, which I’m sure is just a coincidence and not malicious at all. -

@pojntfx XMPP for the win, my friend. Prosody + Movim

@pojntfx not unless they completely re-do how it's currently done, Matrix with Spaces is just super disconnected and nothing like Discord
Part of the whole hook of Discord is multiple rooms to a single server, Matrix Spaces are nothing like it
