@evacide I love how this post popped up as I’m listening to part 1 of that exact podcast.
@sunsetmountains I spent my late teens and early twenties just dodging bullets like Neo in the Matrix.

@evacide
I know, right? I wasn't in the area but I was in the same cultural milieu and could have easily been swept up in it.But more frightening than that, I can see myself in that cult leader and I *really* don't like it. If I'd had that kind of access to people when I was young and cute and on my bullshit...

@sunsetmountains Before I pat myself too hard on the back, I got hit by every damn bullet at once in my thirties. Do not recommend.

Dunno, poor choices and getting knocked around a bit is the norm. But also, people lie and hide who they are, quite often.

@jb @evacide @sunsetmountains Try catching them all in your late 40s in the space of a few months. Cannot recommend.

@evacide My roommate, when I was subleasing my girlfriend's apartment while she was on rotation at Google, Greg, worked IT for Om downtown in SF. Apparently, he would constantly get propositioned by girls at the fingerbang cult and was so unnerved he would politely excuse himself and then go to the broom closet to work.
He runs a startup that got VC funding for documenting APIs now. I feel like there is a certain trait of avoidance he picked up considering he was flying to Vegas to work in hotel rooms and because there is nothing else he would ever do there. He then moved into the "startup space" to live/work out of the studio apartment his company is incorporated at years later when funding was secured lol.
My favorite memory of SF weird stuff was going on dates with the matriarch of the poly community and patriarch of the clown community post-schism when they divorced, purely by happenstance, and getting the tea as they both fucking tried to make each other jealous by showing me off on dates where they both just so happened to be around.
