We would still need fast communications and some kind of electronic systems to transfer money quickly between people no matter what - who the fuck wants to deal with cheques any more?

There was a lot of fraud with cheques as you couldn't do any real-time checks to see if the person actually had the money in an account.

Cheques had their use, but I'm glad they are dying out.
