@badnetmask a friendly alert that mechanical keyboard is a scam to generate endless YouTube videos from “creators”. They're good, but not a massive difference as people (creators) tell. And if you end up buying one, that's enough; no need to “upgrade” to another new, shinier one.

I used a Das Keyboard for ~7 years, but last year I went back to MacBook's built-in keyboard — which I actually prefer, tbh.

Don't worry. I'm not doing this to follow any hype. But thanks for the warning.

I'm sorry. Corne with markstos layout, TTC bluish white tactile switches, MT3 key profiles.

Well. First thing I learned about mechanical keyboards: I do not want a mechanical+clicky. I'm undecided between mechanical+{linear, tactile} or magnetic... 🤔

Progress on the search for a mechanical keyboard: I now know I want 75%, because I need the arrow keys, but not the numpad.

The problem is that now I found out about the Alice layout, so that's a new thing to think about. 🙄

@badnetmask oh the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole 😆 Maybe "Alice" would be quite appropriate for the rabbit hole 🐰

@badnetmask@hachyderm.io I have mechanical tactical keyboards at work, but I do prefer the mechanical non-tactical at home

Magnetic is likely not that useful unless you're gaming on it and want to fine-tune activation points/etc

@badnetmask@hachyderm.io ok it would be super neat if a keyboard used mag-lev instead of a mechanical spring, and you could configure each key's activation force and activation sensitivity individually

@badnetmask I have a Lofree FLOW Lite, and it is the best mechanical keyboard I've used in decades, I love the key switches on this keyboard, being wireless also helps keeping the desk clean.

@badnetmask@hachyderm.io the keyboard is a pretty basic keycron, reasonably priced, letters show up on the screen when I press buttons, and it has a volume knob, good enough for me tbh

I definitely need wireless, but a dongle is required, due to KVM. It's not easy to switch with BT.

@badnetmask I know the keyboard I want, but it seems they don't actually make it anymore.

I've got an ANSI layout Nuphy Air 60 with brown switches, and it's pretty good... not too loud, 60% size, low profile, hotswap Cherry-style switches in case I fancy a change, does multiple BlueTooth connections, has a 2.4Ghz dongle and even does USB-C wired connection!

However switching between the ANSI layout on that and ISO layouts on all my other devices is bending my brain (there is an extra key on an ISO layout, so I'm missing some punctuation that's normally easily accessible) so I want an ISO version.

Whilst they do list a UK ISO layout on some parts of their website, it's never in stock and I've never seen one on Youtube or anything. Shame as it's a reasonably dope keyboard and sensibly priced.

                            #nuphy #mechanicalkeyboard
