Da boids

Every sign has it‘s original story.
I ask myself how these silly humans treated the Crows beforehand so that it became neccesary to put this sign.Crows are extremely intelligent. A friend of mine used to feed the crows that perched on the edge of the roof for a while. Then he got tired of it and started throwing small stones at them. The birds would follow him along the gutter. And whenever he got within range, they would poop on him.
Never mess with a Crow!

@pluralistic As usual, the Germans hiding the lede: it's not just "birds", it's corvids, that means they won't just attack, they will have planned where, when, and how to attack, and will have taken your name.
@Illuminatus @pluralistic What you need is some Aussie magpies! Not a corvid (somewhat related to the butcherbird), they've been witnessed teaming up to take down corvids...
[Hey, what could go wrong importing agressive species with no local predators?

]@FunkyBob @pluralistic TIL about the Aussie magpies <and> that Corvids are a subtaxon of Passeriformes.

@Illuminatus @pluralistic That's what you get if you crowsource your translations.

It is probably a subtle nod to Alfred Hitchcock.

The English translation is sub-optimal.
Google translates the German text more accurately as "WARNING! Danger from attacking crows."
@johnlogic @Illuminatus @pluralistic
GoTra is not reliable enough for translations into certain "complex" languages and often even when trying to better address the concept it seems that it remains stubborn in its incorrect version of the translation. -

@pluralistic Gotta hand it to the Germans, nothing grabs the attention quite like a well-placed "ACHTUNG!"

@pluralistic I hope Alfred Hitchcock would have been pleased that my next thought was about his 1960s film "The Birds"

@crisl_at@mastodon.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr Early in January we were on a beach, eating focaccias, and a friend of mine was mugged by a pair of seagulls. The first one "tagged" him by flying noisily over his head; the second one dove from a building and stole the focaccia out of my friend's hands.
