Our family travels a bit for kid sports and vacations and I just picked up the Ubiquiti Travel Router when it came off back order.

This is our first trip with it but so far it’s really nice.
The kids’ devices jumped right on because it’s our “home” network and we have access to all the local services on the our LAN over wireguard.
I only had to jump through the captive portal a single time.

It seems like it would definitely be possible to make something like this with openwrt for non unifi networks but I don’t know what I’d do for hardware.
Maybe an SBC + a usb WiFi adapter?
And the software would be the next question… I wonder how to pass the portal off to a client device.

@amd in extremely envious that you were able to snag one before they went out of stock
