Okay I'm seeing like 4-ish Discord alternatives right now: Teamspeak, Root, Matrix, and Stoat. There's also Signal but that seems more like a return to Skype than what people use Discord for. Am I missing any?

@AyotoCorp here's an article someone here shared that lists a few more (Rocket.Chat, Zulip, Mattermost and Discourse) although some of those are different genres

@AyotoCorp well where there’s also spacebarchat, jitsi, mumble, xmpp, irc, simplex, threema…

to be honest there’s ALOT of options out there, but none of them do all the things discord can do, and that’s ok. even I use a small mix of them (and thankfully bridges exist at least on the matrix side)

@AyotoCorp I've never heard of Stoat, but if I'm seeing this correctly, you'd have to trust the provider there as well, wouldn't you?
I can't find anything at all for root.
