it’s always a bad day when the IOC announces new gender rules.

Trump’s executive order barred trans women from competing in women’s sport. The government has the luxury of not needing to actually implement the rules so they didn’t have to get into the sociomedical weeds on this issue. The IOC acquiesced to trump, reversing a 20 year old policy that has resulted in exactly 1 trans olympian ever, who did not medal. But instead of just saying “No trans people” they decided to simply test for SRY expression. there’s gonna be literally dozens of women who are caught up in trying to prove they are women for the first time in their life.

I’ve seen the number of women with DSDs that would be ineligible as a 1:5000 rate. That is insanely common at population scales. DSDs tend to be over represented in athletics too

> Specifically, eight female participants (out of a total of 3387) at these games were found to have the SRY gene. However, after further investigation of their genetic conditions, all these athletes were verified as female and allowed to compete.
in 1996 they tried this exact thing and only found false positives. Previously the barr body test was worse (because there’s more ways to get false positives and negatives)
this can end people’s sporting careers if there is a media circus around their gender testing process. it has done so in the past

@timmy IMHO the only valid classes re: sports are those actually making sense for fairness.
With actual metrics like:
- age
- weight
- height
- ranked skill (ELO - esque) -

@timmy@goblin.camp Where are all the trans women winning medals? ...oh right.. estrogen hrt actually makes it more difficult for them to compete. IOC is just jumping on the bigots bandwagon, which feels never ending...
