@Remittancegirl Adding to that, it becomes more shocking by the day to hear people around me telling something as fact, because they heard , read it on G&Co . Not doubting anything they read there.
Those are people from all ages, not just the oldies.

@Remittancegirl Then there’s this, related, issue. Microsoft this time.

          Gerry McGovern (@gerrymcgovern@mastodon.green)

"A retired journalist was falsely accused of serious crimes by Microsoft Copilot. The AI linked his name to criminal cases he once reported on and published personal details, including his address and phone number." https://amp.dw.com/en/ai-chatbot-falsely-accuses-journalist-of-crimes/video-77013145

@Remittancegirl This is the kind of thing that I don't think you can actually recover from because there are going to be people who refuse to believe that Google made it up. Oof.

@Remittancegirl the only problem AI solves is accountability.
                  “Silly AI was just hallucinating”
“Can’t blame me, it was AI”
“We let the AI make the decisions”
                  “AI will be be AI”

I wonder if it's because he's a fiddler and kiddie fiddler is common slang (at least in the UK).

@Remittancegirl No, I can't, the horror is too immense.
But I can imagine that it can break and kill people confronted to it, having less means or energy to fight.
And as everthing happens on social media nowadays, their life will never be the same again.

@Remittancegirl the horror of having your picture published in The Guardian... backwards?

I don't know, maybe he has a special left-hand fiddle and plays it backwards, but I've never seen it happen.

@Remittancegirl $1.5 million is nowhere near enough, Google won't even notice it

1.5% of annual profit would be closer to the mark

@Remittancegirl he should’ve sued for more. Or Google might just pay this out of small change to make it go away.

@Remittancegirl he should be suing for ten times that much. That sort of thing puts him at real risk. It's not trivial, and Google should pay.

@2003MugishaPhocit Your response seems to have nothing to do with @Remittancegirl's posting. You seem to have used answering her question as an excuse to go off on an irrelevant tangent in her thread. Why did you do that? It's kind of rude.

@Remittancegirl Sought damages are 1-3 orders of magnitude too small.
