Ah yes, the "IETF chat standard" where most of the advertised features are not actually in the IETF standard.
There are a lot of reasons I recommend the fediverse, but "its protocol is endorsed by an organization made up of big corporations" is not among them.

The RFC cover the basic protocol and then there are extensions, yes. Where is the problem with that?
I like standards as interoperability is hard when everybody rolls their own NIH protocol.
