Seriously, the fundamental problem with the Democratic Party is this dynamic where as soon as Republicans attack them for supporting a marginalized community, ANY marginalized community, Democrats withdraw all support and pretend that group doesn't exist.

And if that doesn't work, they adopt Republican talking points and pivot to attacking that group themselves. Which obviously doesn't help as it shows fear and vulnerability. The Republicans just amp up their attacks even more.

And unfortunately, the "effectiveness" of these attacks exists largely in Democrats' imaginations and mainly because they're more sensitive to criticism from their fellow white conservatives in the GOP than they are responsive to real voters.

You can see this in how the Harris campaign was retconned by the Democratic intelligentsia.
Harris campaigned as a neocon, literally, hanging out with the Cheneys and everything, and was neutral to hostile towards trans rights. She didn't campaign on trans rights. She didn't even want to talk about us. She distanced herself as much as possible.
But after the fact, her failure was blamed on running an ultra-woke, left-wing campaign that never happened.

Her loss was blamed specifically on trans people. She was accused of campaigning too hard for us and leaving herself vulnerable to Trump's barrage of anti-trans ads.
Literally none of this happened.

@gwynnion BINGO! That is exactly right. Btw, it won’t be soon enough when we can see the last of Chuck Schumer. I’d rather not see Hakeem Jeffries either.

It was all extremely disingenuous, and we know that because the other neocons in the party seethed at Arab, Muslim, anti-genocide, and pro-Palestinian voters for not supporting the campaign.
"Enjoy the camps," they sneered.
They know what they are.

We have watched this dynamic play out many times before, such as on immigration.
In response to fake Republican outrage about "border invasions," Obama and then Biden swung hard right on border controls and deportations. Democrats bragged about deporting more people than Trump did in his first term.
And what did that get them? Nothing. No anti-immigration voters changed sides. Republicans didn't stop blaming them for everything. Obama staffers famously called it a huge waste of time.

This goes back years and years. Clinton's Sister Souljah clapback was meant to distance themselves from Jesse Jackson and the party's Black base.
Democrats spent years piling on "tough on crime" legislation that caused mass incarceration for Black men.
But no matter how racist Democrats got, Republicans never backed off their own criticism and fake outrage.
But Democrats wanted to be liked by Republicans more than they wanted Black voters to support them.

Democrats are weak. Everybody knows it by now because Democrats have betrayed almost all of us at some point, chasing Republican approval, oligarch cash, and white conservative votes.
Democrats have been at war with their base for years. You know what that tells me? That Democrats agree with Republicans, or they can easily be convinced to do so, and take the rest of us for granted.
A lot of these Democrats are Zionists, misogynists, transphobes, and white supremacists looking to get rich.

@gwynnion Okay, I'm out of food again.
Out of SNAP. My birthday is tomorrow. Can you spare anything?

Why the hell would I support a party that treats ME as the problem?
Especially compared to openly corrupt fascists like Trump and company?

@gwynnion
True this. Its also performative and they support capitalist and authoritarian policies, while pretending to lose. Such as the framing of universal healthcare, while ignoring progressive liberals' push for single payer, but beginning with backroom dialogue with insurance companies. -

So I'm telling you that if you want Democrats to win elections, they're going to have to move to where voters are, not what they, their donors, and their third way consultants want.
And if you want them to fix anything Trump, et al. have done, their opposition is going to have to be more than just tone policing Trump's social media account.
People WANT Democrats to be loud, rude, and angry on their behalf.
Otherwise ratchet theory will keep driving us off a cliff.

The median voter is not Bill Maher for fuck's sake.
They sure as shit aren't the Baileys.

Again, to be very clear, Democrats need to follow voters, not the other way around. That's literally how politics works.

I agree. We need more Bernie Sanders Democrats and we don't have them. -

@gwynnion This is what radicalized me. In 2021 the dems decided that medically vulnerable people needed to go die for the economy after spending a year of screaming at republicans for trying to kill grandma for the stock market.

@maggiejk Every time we give Democrats the chance to do the right thing, like they promised, they stab us in the fucking back.

@gwynnion And it makes those of us who have always voted Democrat stop supporting them.
