Ubiquiti has just released the U7 Mesh wireless access point. Oh crap, they're going to make me spend even more money, aren't they? I'm really hoping this will solve some of my stupid performance issues on this network, where I can't run Ethernet to most places.

@HopelessDemigod It's already in my cart on the Ubiquiti store. I wasn't planning on dropping cash on more networking gear this month, but... eh... This is really bugging me.

@BorrisInABox Haven’t looked at this yet, but have they added any sort of dedicated backhaul channel for the mesh?

@jfayre No, but for my purposes in this particular instance, it doesn't matter so much, since nothing is using 6GHZ here. It can backhaul on that as much as it wants.

@BorrisInABox Whew, I haven't bought the dreamrouter 7 yet. Should I just wait to see if they bring another one out? or is hardware updates usually farther apart?

@SirMars Probably nothing new on that front for a while. The U7 Mesh needed a whole bunch of redesign because of how the U6 Mesh worked, so it took longer.

@BorrisInABox I've been waiting for this
The mesh is much easier to mount since it doesn't have to be ceiling mounted. -

The mesh is much easier to mount since it doesn't have to be ceiling mounted.@Doug73 Yeah, mesh is easier to deal with here. I have ceiling-mounted a pair of U6 Pros at home, so I will probably just upgrade those to U7 Pros and keep the old hardware since it's compatible.

@SirMars @BorrisInABox no use waiting. the dream router 7 is a newly refreshed dream machine/ ream router 7. plus ubiquiti doesn't end of life products like google or apple so it'll be useful, and current for another 5 plus years or more.
Plus ubiquiti stuff is expandable so just add access points to the system later.
The only reason I might go with something else over the UDR7 is to get something that has SFP since upstream is getting faster and a lot of those boxes have 10 gig sfp ports on them. -

@ppatel I just did. Hoping it will solve my stupid bottlenecked channel bandwidth problem I am currently having between a U7 Pro and a U6 Mesh.

@BorrisInABox @SirMars I didn't know about that. I was just thinking since he's buying the newest thing and he wants it to last, it gives him the most upgradeability. Plus SFP can be assigned to lan, or wan he can always hook up one of those 8 or 16 port switches via 10 gb SFP.
I'm annoyed. I got this 16 pro max switch, and found out that I need a rack mount kit. UI has been sold out on those for months. so I got one from ebay and now the seller is taking forever to ship Once I get that then I will get a super short sfp interlink cable and have everything hooked up all cool and fast. You should see the power supply for the 16 pro max. it looks like a vhs tape. I think its like a 300 watt 48 v supply, so it's huge. -

@BorrisInABox @ppatel did you also include some of those super slim ethernet cables with the super bendable boots? Surprisingly the pricing for ubiquiti cables is quite good. even cheaper than monoprice and you don't have to wait for shipping from china.

@Doug73 @BorrisInABox That's exactly what I bought. I had them in my cart already. I have a contact at the company who told me that the new mesh was coming this month. So I waited.
