    EE folks: what would you use for:

    • a connector
    • that is panel-mounted (sheet steel)
    • for SELV
    • for less than 5 A of current
    • with a quick disconnect capability
    • that isn't a banana jack or a screw?

      @whitequark cursed but some Chinese manufacturers use speaker terminals (the press and insert type) for this. I've even seen them used for 120V mains.

        @whitequark good question.

        I guess Anderson- & XT-connectors are too bulky?

            @whitequark cuz there are a lot of different-sized XT connectors (usually named by max rated Amps) and they are designed to get shrinkwrap and/or tiedown-mounted.

            • Plus they are designed to be idiot-proof.

            Another Option are Tamiya and Monex & Berg-Connectors, tho I'd avoid the latter two as they ain't designed for high numbers of cycles and potentially you've to assume some idiot trying to shove a PC-PSU on those.

              @ret @whitequark Given that in the audio world they're used to push 200-250 Watts to 8 Ohms speakers, that's indeed a good option for ELV under 30VDC.

                @whitequark I'm a dummy - what is SELV?

                One important factor is to avoid connectors that have an existing well known purpose if your signal is incompatible with that purpose.

                For example, mains voltage on something that looks like a speaker spring terminal, or 20 VDC on a USB A connector.

                Don't ask ...
